That's What I'm Talking About

I generally review romance, paranormal and urban fantasy. I tend to pick review books that I want to read, so generally my reviews will be positive. I always give my honest opinion: good, bad, and indifferent.

The Darkest Passion - Gena Showalter Ah: Aeron... How I have loved thee from the beginning!

I have been waiting for Aeron's book since the first Lords Of The Underworld story. And the wait was rewarded.

Aeron was long tormented by his demon, Wrath. He has always felt the need to destroy an individual for his/her sins. Cronus, God King, put him through terrible bloodlust and he almost went insane. His sanity was put back together with the calming influence of his "daughter" demon, Legion. That is until he meets darling Olivia, a true heavenly angel. She soothes Aeron and causes Wrath to purr. She gave up her entire heavenly existence and climbed out of hell just to be with Aeron. Oh, and the complications that follow them.

Ms. Showalter does a fantastic job weaving a tale of star-crossed love. Olivia is confident in herself and in the One Divine Creator's plans. She will give almost anything to spend a few moments with Aeron. But he's to die, and that is the way it is to be. She seems to accept this, until she grows and learns what human emotions do to an individual. When she realizes she truly loves this male, she realizes that she must let him go for the great good. Aeron is happy with his life does not want Olivia in it. Until likewise, he understands what it is become whole through loving someone else.

The overall story arc of Lords vs Hunters was more of a side story in this book, which I enjoyed more than in the previous book, The Darkest Whisper. It was still a prominate feature, but took second fiddle to the development of the love between the two main characters.

My only complaint about this story is the ending. The problem with the ending is the abrupt finality to the tale. The entire ending was verbally spelled out by Olivia and "wham" the book was done. I would have much rather "seen" the ending play out. Give me a chapter that showed me what happened to all the players after the peak of the story. (It's tough to explain without spoilers.)

My rating: 4.5 stars
